This time me and my pair, Elif Bostan, have created an Augmented Reality Integrated Teaching Material. First of all, I hear you saying "What is Augmented Reality?". Augmented Reality is a technology that allows video, picture and 3D models and animations to
be visualized in a 3D environment based on elements of the real world, as our teacher has explained.
Augmented reality in education is surging in popularity in schools worldwide. Through augmented reality (AR), educators are able to improve learning outcomes through increased engagement and interactivity. It is really fruitful for both the learners and teachers. It features aspects that enhance learning of abilities like problem-solving, collaboration, and creation to better prepare students for the future. It is also good for traditional pedagogy focused on technical knowledge and proficiencies.
AR provides students with opportunities to deepen their knowledge within several areas, including:
- Reading
- Working with numbers
- Spatial concepts
- Playing
- Content creation
- Real-life environments & scenarios
The Augmented Reality Integrated Teaching Material that we have created is mainly about Alberta, Canada. We have been fascinated by the beauty of Alberta, thus we thought that it could be a nice material content for our students. We chose the option " exploring a city abroad". Our target students are High school English prep class students (A2 level).
We have overcame the problems that we have encountered while preparing the handouts. The apps were quite hard and complicated to use. But we believe we did well. We have even added QR codes of some beneficial 360degree videos and 3D photos to out handouts. For the QR code making process, we have used a useful site which is really easy to use. You can find it here. Through these codes, the learners could learn more about the topic smoothly.
We have also created a project for students to complete. The project covers what students have explored so far. The students will write a postcard to a friend imagining that they have spent the day in the explored city and they are writing about their experience of it.
The truth is; augmented reality is of huge benefits to many aspects of life. It makes life’s activities easy and fun. So we have learnt that one of such areas where AR drives massive benefits is in education. Hopefully you have liked the handouts that we have prepared. See you in the next post!
